![]() He grew up with a sister, three half brothers, an older stepbrother and an older stepsister, and has gone through a string of three dads. LeDuff lived most of his life on Joy Road in Detroit. “I don’t get these people,” he says with a shrug. ![]() Even though he has moved to the suburbs, he hasn’t become stale. ![]() There is a child’s swing hanging from a tall oak for his daughter, and a black, shining Harley Davidson parked on his front walk. Somewhere tucked inside his green painted brick house, a Pulitzer Prize has been collecting dust. He has been driving it to work for the last twenty years, and it frequents the roads from LeDuff’s home to his current workplace, Fox 2 News Detroit, where he works as a reporter. On the street, leaves blow up against the fender of his 1972 refurbished Checkered Taxicab that his brother spray-painted matte black. When he smiles, his face stretches over his angular cheekbones and sharp pointing chin - he is a Guy Fawkes look alike, and could very well be plotting a revolution. ![]() His black hair is disheveled, and the wind blows through it as he sips on a brown liquid out of a mason jar. His nose cuts away from his face, and angles down towards his mustache. His gray cable knit sweater zips at the very top, pointing up towards his black goatee. Charlie LeDuff sits on a wicker chair on the porch of his small Pleasant Ridge home. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Why not give them something that is real and relevant to their own lives? Something that will engage them and teach them about how others survive in surroundings similar to their own. It's no surprise that MANY of my students are also 100% NOT interested in reading because they aren't able to make a clear connection with the words on the page. Do you know that Jason Reynolds didn't read his 1st complete novel until he was 17 years old? The required texts written into most schools' curriculum do not always reach kids the same way they once did, because our world isn't the same way it once was. He is an inspiration to so many people - young, old, students, teachers, parents. His stories are relevant, because they are about THEIR lives. His characters are relatable, because they ARE my students. I teach Spanish and English Lit and Composition in an urban setting high school and my students LOVE his work. ![]() ![]() He narrates this piece himself, proving he is talented not only as a writer, but also as a performer! Because of the style of writing (yes, get yourself the book in print, too, because to be able to see these words on paper is just as powerful as hearing them), I don't think anyone could have done a better job narrating this piece than the author, himself. What makes this one even better, though, is the narration. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, narrated by Jason Reynolds is amazing! I knew it would be.everything I have read by Jason Reynolds has been outstanding. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lexi doesn’t really see anything wrong with her behaviours. It’s easy to see why she enjoys that lifestyle, and why she doesn’t believe she has an addiction. Some of Lexi’s experiences with drugs sound glamorous and at times, almost romantic. Lexi is instantly dislikeable, but I adored her from the start. She is sarcastic and has a really dark and twisty sense of humour that made me snort-laugh on many occasions. Her boyfriend Kurt, is big in the drug scene and Lexi is as addicted to him as she is to drugs. She has so many toxic relationships it’s hard to keep track. ![]() Lexi is a rich, spoiled socialite with a salty attitude and a drug addiction. Pine Fresh.Ĭlean starts right in the middle of all the action as Lexi Volkov finds herself coming around from her heavy night of drugs and finding herself being taken to rehab by her brother, Nikolai. If you want to ask about a particular topic or trigger in relation to this book, then feel free to message me and I’d be happy to help. There are so many possible triggers that I can’t list them all here, but Clean deals with many kinds of addiction and rehab, and you should think carefully about reading it if you think the content is likely to be triggering. This book comes with all of the trigger warnings. ![]() ![]() ![]() Marshall Briggs is suddenly being kind to her, and Scarlett is more confused than happy.
